  • Buganda At A Glace

The ultimate touch of local vibe is a clan so whichever way you connect; intending, current or departed visitor/s, our Buganda Clans Totem outfits vocal your solidarity with Uganda Heritage

Buganda Kingdom consists of 52 clans each led by Omutaka Owakasolya and all under The Kabaka (King Muwenda Mutebi II).

Established around 1,300 AD with Headquarters now at Bulange–Mmengo in Kampala; Buganda Kingdom (Central in many aspects), with neighbors together form present day Uganda.

At the back of some of our design/ outfits is the full list of 18 Counties that make this Interlacustrine Bantu Kingdom which, unmatched with what he encountered on his quest for the Source of the Nile; Buganda Kingdom's level of civility, loyalty, cultural integrity, administrative structure, barkcloth technology, the Great Lukiiko (Parliament), protocol and decorum at Kabaka's Court etc; stunned John H. Speke the first European Explorer to set foot in the region – for which; subsequent agreements placed Uganda under British Protectorate as full-blown Colony was, therefore, deemed inappropriate!

Whereas that barely scratches the ground of "the glory of Buganda" yet, why Ugandans count it all joy when they are labeled conservative, is already self-evident for, indeed, they have something to conserve!

Lately Luganda language was added onto Google Translate and The Ganda Boys a UK based music group have taken a big step by organizing choirs from
all six continents of the world
to come together in a cultural
celebration of Uganda’s heritage with a grand collaboration on a
recording of the Buganda National Anthem Ekitiibwa Kya Buganda(The Glory of Buganda).

As we wait to take your orders; meanwhile that’s how native you are perceived, flaunting these design/ outfits – on your way to, while in or on your way out of what Sir Winston Churchill described as "The Pearl of Africa"

  • Kabaka's Court

A story is told of John H Speke's first day at Kabaka's Court (King Muteesa I), then at present day Kasubi Nabulagala and preserved as UNESCO listed Kasubi Mausoleum. He arrived as court was assembling and whereas each an arriving dignitary was received with deafening pomp, ululation, drums and dancing; Speke would each time think this, surely, must be the King yet to his utter surprise the throne remained vacant.

Then, lo and behold, all went belly down in prostration and as he wondered what himself was to do, before he knew it the throne had been occupied and court was ready to commence.

Scripture says in Matthew 4:8 "Again the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them." It appears like only Jesus, surely not the British-etc, would overcome the temptation to grab Buganda.

Donning our Buganda Clans Totem outfits therefore make you standout as the most stunning and memorable person; leaving man and woman of your young and old heartthrobs in Buganda speechless!

Also consider them fabulous gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, wedding introductions, graduations, seasons gift and/ or "to slay" in social outings or for kids’ school "culture & heritage days/ expo/s," etc.

The History of Buganda counts for volumes upon volumes of literature and over time we'll do our best to share but, on a sad note; in what is today argued by some as perhaps a linguistic blunder we lost Bishop James Hannington (RIP).

Unlike Europeans before him that approached Buganda Kingdom from Zanzibar, through present day Tanzania and across Nalubaale (Lake Victoria) south of Buganda; the good Bishop pioneered a shorter route via Mombasa and present day Kenya so when neighboring Busoga Kingdom hosted him and sent word to Buganda Kingdom requesting "permission to proceed" (a visa of sorts); approaching from the east was considered backdoor, received with suspicion, diplomatically and spiritually interpreted as subversive.

An order was issued that led to his execution but the controversy is–which order was given; for the Luganda word Mute for "release him" borders spelling and therefore pronunciation with Mutte the word for "kill him;" moreover the order was being sent verbally to a neighboring tribe of a slightly different dialect.

Other pronunciation dilemmas exist; for example you really want to be careful how you ask for water as you may not like what is delivered because Mazzi for water and Mazi for excreta can also be easily be miss-processed as one for the other.
